TEA
It's tea break at the hydroponics farm where I work. Zohra slides next to me, theatrical flourish, hands me an envelope, "be a pal, Arezou, read it."
The return address shows - who else - boyfriend off on a Peace Corps tour of duty on a colony planet.
I read it slowly, then reread at her request.
"That lying rat, I can tell he's cheating."
"How so?"
"Always talks a certain way when he has something big to hide."
"Oh."
"When that lying two-timing rat gets back, I'm gonna carve him."
"Don't."
"Oh yeah, and who are you to tell me what to do?"
"You can't read the news. Lotta the people convicted, end up in military draft."
She ponders a moment, "we-ell, in that case yeah. But still he cheats, so can I."
"But how can you be so certain?"
Shrug, "yeah, let him have his fling. He'll crawl back. Who's better looking than me?"
Whew, at least she isn't doing anything drastic.
